چکیده

Fixed wireless access has the unrealized potential to play a major role in the adoption of broadband in the U. S. We conduct a case study of the feasibility of business in a suburban U. S. community and conclude that with a preference for the use of licensed spectrum, such a small scale, grass roots business would be feasible. This opens the question of promoting the economic availability of licensed spectrum in areas smaller than a Basic Trading Area (BTA).

Final Report of the Technology Transfer Project ”Wireless Mesh Networks for Interconnection of Remote Sites to Fixed Broadband Networks (Feasibility Study)”

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) operating in the 5GHz band (IEEE 802.11 a/h) offer a great opportunity to function as wireless access networks. Remote sites that lack direct access to a fibre network may benefit from this technology, as it can be used to bridge potentially large distances. The high gain of directional antennas improves the reception of signals in focused directions and reduces in...

Extension of the Coverage Region of Multiple Access Channels by Using a Relay

From practical and theoretical viewpoints, performance analysis of communication systems by using information-theoretic results is important. In this paper, based on our previous work on Multiple Access Channel (MAC) and Multiple Access Relay Channel (MARC), we analyze the impact of a relay on the fundamental wireless communications concept, i.e., coverage region of MARC, as a basic model for u...

Licensed Shared Access evolution enables early access to 5G spectrum and novel use cases

This paper discusses the regulatory and standardization status of the Licensed Shared Access (LSA), compares it with the US Citizens Broadband Radio Service concept, and reviews results from the ongoing feasibility study in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute on temporary spectrum access for local high-quality wireless networks. Based on comparative analysis, a new LSA evolution...

Spectrum Emission Mask for Coexistence between Future WiMAX and Existing Fixed Wireless Access Systems

This paper introduces a new coexistence study of the future WiMAX system and existing fixed wireless access (FWA) systems and investigates its feasibility. Spectrum emission mask as an interference mitigation technique is used as well as interference to noise ratio (I/N) of -6 dB as one of standard sharing criterion value at FWA systems recommended by international telecommunication union radio...

Gigabit/s Wireless over Fibre Systems for Future Access Networks

We aim to assess the feasibility of wireless over fibre systems that can operate at millimetre-wave frequencies for delivering gigabit/s wireless data to portable or fixed customer units. We have demonstrated the error-free transmission of 1 Gbit/s D-BPSK signals over 2.2 km of single-mode fibre and over 2 metres of RF cable in the 40 GHz band.
